Live bands will entertain teenagers on board P&O ships
P&O's cruise ships are set to reverberate to the sound of some of the world's most popular bands this summer.
Music from the Kaiser Chiefs, Blink 182, Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys will be performed by live cover bands to entertain teenage passengers.
The gigs, part of a range of entertainment provided by P&O designed to allow the kids to let their hair down and their parents to relax, will take place on board Oceana on sailings from Southampton.
P&O's Philip Price said the teenage groups have traditionally been the hardest to entertain.
"We want to offer credible, targeted entertainment for teens and young adults. Teens these days are savvy and a lot more demanding, so we have tapped into current music tastes and identified this as an area we can develop to show our teens a good time on board.
"The bands that will play on board are professional gigging bands. The music is live and very loud!"
Parents need not concern themselves with the noise, however, as the gigs are all held in a dedicated soundproof area of the ship.
For younger age groups – five to eight and nine to 12 year-olds – theatre company Katch22 will be hosting theatre workshops and participation performance, showing them what it is like to be up on stage.
On all summer school holiday cruises, there will be a DJ for teenagers and a magician for younger children.
