BA to no longer take surfboards

British Airways' has said it will no longer take surfboards as part of a new policy on carrying "certain larger items".
BA had been one of the few carriers to accept a wide range of sporting goods at no extra charge, but has now said issues handling bulky items at airports had led the airline to change its policy.
"The redefined list of sports equipment takes into account a number of factors such as limitations of airport baggage systems and size and weight restrictions in the aircraft hold," BA said in statement.
"Some items are simply not suitable for airport baggage systems to handle or travel in the aircraft hold due to size and weight restrictions, as well as customer demand.
"We are working with a number of freight forwarders to find an alternative way for customers to carry surfboards and other larger items. Until this solution is in place, we will continue to honour bookings."
However, the airline has said it will continue to accept surfboards when they are booked through specialist tour operators the airline works with.
"Most group surfing trips are organised this way," BA explained.
It added shortboards small enough to be packed in normal hold luggage will still be accepted, provided they stay within the normal weight allowance.
