The Swedish low-cost airline FlyMe has announced it will be filing for bankruptcy.
The airline board members decided to halt all ticket sales from 11:00 on March 2nd, suspending all flights and grounding all aircraft.
"We are sorry for all inconvenience caused to persons who will not be able to travel as planned with FlyMe," the board of the airline said in statement.
Danish airline Sterling has stepped in to help stranded passengers and those with bookings. Up until March 11th 2007, the airline is offering those unable to fly back with FlyMe free travel on Sterling airlines subject to availability.
Passengers who have international flights booked FlyMe are also being offered a SEK200 (£14) discount if they rebook with Sterling for each journey.
"It is always unfortunate when a company goes bankrupt and has negative consequences for its customers. We want to help as much as we can," said Almar Örn Hilmarsson, Sterling chief executive.
