Top package holidays 2008

Friday, 28 Dec 2007 15:20
Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and Egypt are the top places to go for a package holiday in 2008.

That is according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), which explains holidays such as playing tennis on the island of Crete, getting married in Cyprus, enjoying all-inclusive luxury for less on Turkey's south-eastern coast and cruises along the Red Sea and Nile in Egypt make the four countries exciting places to go next year.

"At number five in the UK's list of [most popular] destinations Greece has more to offer than just sun and sand and tour operators and hotels are increasingly offering packages that will appeal to a wider market," Abta explained.

Commenting on Cyprus' popularity in 2008, Abta said: "Cyprus…remains a popular year-round destination for Brits and from January 1st 2008 Cyprus will be using the euro.

"Travellers visit the island of love for walking, golf, history and spa holidays plus it's a popular wedding destination."

Turkey's appeal is in its "great beaches, amazing history plus it is still one of the best value for money destinations…a popular option with families on a budget," Abta explained.

Finally, Abta said Egypt's combination of an exciting array of marine life, small Red Sea ports to explore, and plenty of historical sites made it a top package holiday destination for 2008.
