Lufthansa strike threatens disruption

It is likely that operations at Frankfurt and Hamburg airports will be disrupted as 5,000 Lufthansa staff walked off the job in a dispute over pay.
Ground staff and cabin crew members went on strike from midnight on Sunday night after talks between union Verdi and the airline broke down.
The German airline has claimed none of its scheduled flights were delayed or cancelled this morning but Verdi union spokesperson, Erhard Ott, warned the impact of the strike will grow over the coming days.
Verdi claims 91 per cent of union members voted in favour of strike action, leaving the airline vulnerable to a walk out by 52,000 staff members.
Last week Lufthansa was hit by a 36-hour pilots' strike and had to cancel almost 1,000 regional flights.
Lufthansa is warning passengers to check the
Lufthansa website for information on flight times and cancellations.
