Europe's first 'horticultural' theme park

Thursday, 26 Nov 2009 17:13
Europe's first theme park devoted entirely to the understanding and discovery of plant life will open in April 2010.

Terra Botanica, after ten years in the making, will open near Angers in the Anjou district of the Pays de la Loire, France's leading horticultural region.

The park aims to be both fun and educational, offering the visitor an exciting adventure into the world of plants. At a cost of 83 million euros, the park has been designed to respect the environment, whilst inviting visitors to discover the world of plants through "highly original interactive activities".

Spread across 11 acres of gardens, aquatic spaces, glass houses and buildings, the park will be interspersed with 40 attractions, nature trails and entertainment. Terra Botanica will be divided into four main areas each with their own theme. The coveted section is dedicated to the exploration of plants, spices and exotic territories; the generous section looks at the role of plants as a natural resource to man; the mysterious area uncovers the hidden secrets of plants; whilst the tamed area concentrates on horticultural practices and landscaping.

Local Michelin-starred chef Pascal Favre d'Anne, in the park's restaurant, will offer visitors high quality food in a fun, plant-themed setting, using the region's rich local produce.
