Wine tasting and river cruising holidays in France are among the new activity holidays featuring in Brittany Ferries' new 2006 brochure.

Spa holidays and cycle tour holidays are also included alongside the ferry operator's usual offering of self-catering gites holidays and chalet camping holidays in its French Collection brochure.

"We have tried very hard indeed to provide something for everyone in next year's programme and our new activity holidays really do offer some exciting new experiences," said Brittany Ferries' Christiane Barker.

Examples of the new activity holidays include:

Wine tasting holidays
Brittany Ferries is offering a break in the heart of the Saumur vineyards in the Loire Valley. Three nights in Le Chai de la Paleine, a converted former 19th century wine warehouse, starts at £324 (£162 per person) for a double room and breakfast, including return ferry crossing with a car. Early evening vineyard visits are also included in the price.

Spa holidays
A three-night stay in the four-star Grand Hotel des Thermes, St Malo, which includes either four different seawater spa treatments or two special health & beauty sessions costs £1,371 (£685 per person) with Brittany Ferries. This also includes access to the aquatonic pool, fitness centre, sauna and Turkish bath, plus dinner and breakfast at the hotel and a return ferry crossing with car.

River cruise holiday
A family of four can hire a cabin cruiser for a week-long trip on the Loire, allowing them to explore the French countryside at a sedate pace. For a booking in April, through Brittany Ferries the holiday costs £1,202 (or £300 per person).

Cycling holiday
For those looking for a more active holiday, Brittany Ferries is also offering a six-night cycling tour in Poitou Charentes. Holidaymakers stay at pre-booked hotels, while their baggage is transported separately. Travelling mid-week in June will cost £2,006 for four (£501 per person), including the return crossing with a car.
