Lying on a beach in Bermuda is the top dream holiday for 23 per cent of British holidaymakers, but they also like to be well-informed about the places they travel to, according to a new survey.
The Ciao Surveys poll revealed that 24.7 per cent of respondents spend more than 12 hours researching the places they are going to visit, while 21 per cent spend between two and four hours, and just 5.9 per cent less than an hour.
When choosing a holiday abroad relaxation and sunshine were more important than anything else for 68 per cent and 58 per cent of people, followed by sightseeing, comfort and cuisine (56 per cent, 44.8 per cent and 33.2 per cent respectively).
Adventure and nightlife were priorities for only 21.3 per cent and 16.8 per cent of respondents.
Even less respondents said they go on holiday looking for life changing experiences (14.4 per cent).
Other dream holidays chosen included sailing in the Greek Islands and shopping in New York rather than trekking in the Himalayas.
Australia is the continent Britons would most like to visit (24.8 per cent), followed by North America (19.6 per cent) and Europe (18.3 per cent).
The study surveyed a representative sample of 1,005 adults aged over 18 in the UK.
