New Zealand extends daylight hours

Tuesday, 15 May 2007 11:29
Visitors to New Zealand are going to benefit from longer days as the government has announced it is extending the date the clocks go back.

The change will effectively increase the travel season to the country, which will begin a week earlier in September, and end 27 weeks later on the first Sunday of April.

New Zealand specialist tour operator, Talpacific Holidays, said the change could encourage more holidaymakers to visit New Zealand in the autumn and spring time.

"Not only will tourists enjoy better availability and keener pricing than the traditional peak months of November to February, but it will also take some pressure off New Zealand's infrastructure and resources. Besides which, autumn and spring are beautiful times to visit New Zealand," commented Hugh Packer, Talpacific Holidays manager.

The move was a result of a petition signed by 42,000 New Zealanders urging the government to extend daylight hours.
