Thrillseeking visitors to Sydney, Australia, have a new attraction to add to their itineraries.

Climbing Sydney harbour bridge has long been unrivalled as the attraction offering panoramic views of Sydney harbour combined with a touch of adrenalin.

But now Skywalk on top of Sydney Tower – the city's tallest building - offers the same buzz with even greater views of the city's famous sights.

The experience takes intrepid travellers on a one and a half hour walk 268 metres above Sydney's streets.

As with Bridge Climb, participants don protective clothing and safety harnesses for the guided walk, taking in sights from the Blue Mountains to the city's beaches.

Glass floors and suspended platforms provide skywalkers with a unique view of the streets below, and a sense of just how high up they are.

"Skywalkers will enjoy the thrill of literally walking across the city skyline, enjoying unrivalled views of the world's most beautiful harbour and as far afield as the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains," said James Fulford, chief executive of the Sydney Aquarium Group, which operates the Sydney Tower.

The attraction is open from 09:00 to 22:00 daily, with the last trip departing 20:15.
