Singapore marks anniversary of A380 services

Thursday, 30 Oct 2008 08:56
Singapore Airlines has been celebrating a milestone in civil aviation, as it marks one year of A380 services.

Flight SQ380, the world’s first commercial A380 route, took to the skies on the morning of Friday October 25th 2007, departing Singapore for Sydney, following an online auction for seats on the superjumbo’s inaugural flight.

The landmark flight raised over S$1.9 million (£0.7 million) for charities.

Since then, five more A380s have been delivered by Airbus, allowing Singapore Airlines to connect Singapore with Sydney and Tokyo daily, and twice a day with London.

Singapore Airlines has firm orders for a further 13 A380s and options on another six.

The world’s largest passenger aircraft has performed exceptionally well for Singapore Airlines throughout its one year of service.

It has carried almost 700,000 customers over more than 1,600 commercial flights, and clocked 15,000 flying hours.

The Airline continues to see strong demand for the A380 cabin product from our customers with load factors on A380 routes averaging close to 90 per cent.
