Australian tourism is hoping for a boost in holiday visitors as a result of Baz Luhrmann's upcoming film 'Australia'.
Starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, the movie is to be released in 70 countries from November 2008 with the Australian premiere scheduled for November 13th.
Tourism Australia is planning a promotional campaign to leverage off global interest in the film, the federal minister for tourism announced on Saturday.
The Hon Martin Ferguson welcomed the fact that through the film Australia will potentially be seen by tens of millions of people.
"Tourism Australia will put in place global and country-specific activities designed to motivate people who see the movie to then visit our country," Mr Ferguson said.
He hopes it will bring to life little-known aspects of Australia's natural environment, history and indigenous culture.
The tourism organisation will work with 20th Century Fox and director Baz Luhrmann on the campaign.
