Tropical storm Kammuri has moved from the Gulf of Tongking into Vietnam after lashing the coast of south-east China, causing damage and mass evacuations.
Kammuri also pounded Hong Kong with heavy rain, forcing the closure of many businesses, including the stock market.
The storm is forecast to pass close to Haiphong and then move towards Hanoi, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office reports.
Vietnamese media report the storm as weakening, with winds dropping to less than 39 kilometres an hour. Moderate to heavy rainfall is still expected.
Travellers should monitor weather updates from the
World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
The tropical cyclone season normally runs from May to November.
