Trouble in Tibet

There has been continued widespread unrest in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa over the weekend, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has confirmed.
Protests by Buddhist monks and others over the actions of the Chinese government in the occupied territory have spilled over into neighbouring Chinese provinces, it has been reported.
Foreign Office minister Lord Malloch Brown said in an interview on BBC Radio 4 that the FCO has heard the Chinese government has given an "ultimatum to demonstrators to give themselves up to avoid further violence".
The FCO has warned that travellers should avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and refrain from unnecessary movement within Lhasa until the situation is under control.
Air and rail connections to Lhasa are said to be still operating.
The FCO has also received reports of a curfew in Lhasa and urges travellers to comply with this.
