Sri Lanka travel warnings relaxed

Travel warnings for Sri Lanka have been relaxed for holidaymakers visiting the island.
The Foreign Office is no longer warning against travel to the city of Anuradhupura, though it still advises holidaymakers to be cautious and check with their tour operator before going to the city.
There are still warnings in place for all travel to for areas to the north of the A12 road running from Puttalam in the west to Trincomalee in the east, which includes the Jaffna peninsula.
The Foreign Office also warns against all travel to the eastern areas of Trincomalee and Batticaloa, the coastal areas of Ampara district north of Pottuvil and east of the A25 and A27 roads.
It added: "There is heightened security in Sri Lanka and you are advised to comply with government and security force instructions. There have been detentions particularly of people of Tamil ethnicity.
"You should ensure that you carry some form of identification with you at all times. If you are detained, you should ask the authorities to contact the British High Commission."
