Singapore Airlines is set to fly the world's biggest passenger plane in eight days time, after taking delivery of the first airbus A380 yesterday.
The airline has bought ten of the new 471-seater aircraft, which have been subject to delays of around a year and a half.
The first commercial flight will take place on October 25th 2007, between Singapore and Sydney.
Following this, scheduled services will operate three times daily on the same route from October 28th 2007.
However, British holidaymakers keen to experience the super-size plane for themselves will have to wait until early 2008, when London Heathrow to Singapore flights are available on an A380, three times per day.
Commenting on the plane, Singapore Airlines said: "Fuel burn is considerably lower, on a seat-mile basis, than today's large aircraft. This offers operating airlines real efficiency benefits, while also mitigating the environmental impact of flying. Emissions per passengers are the lowest of any aircraft."
