Holidaymakers visiting the Philippines are being warned today to avoid all but essential travel to the capital Mindaneo and the Sulu archipelago.
The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice to the Philippines following explosions in three locations in Mindanao.
It added: "We also advise against all travel to the Sulu archipelago including Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Jolo, where there are ongoing military and police operations against insurgent groups."
Holidaymakers are also advised there is a high threat from terrorism throughout the Philippines, with terrorist groups planning attacks "at any time and anywhere in the country".
"You are required to show some identity if requested by the police. You are allowed to carry photocopies of the relevant pages of passports," advised the Foreign Office.
