Tropical Cyclone Fengshen is located over the island of Samar in the eastern part of the Philippines archipelago today, it has been reported.
Fengshen has been reported as having wind speeds of up to 90 mph and is forecast to track north-west towards Luzon over the next 24 hours, maintaining that intensity.
Travellers to the Philippines should keep up to date with the situation and follow the advice of local authorities, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) warns.
The typhoon season in the Philippines usually runs from July to November.
The FCO also continues to advise against all travel to Mindanao due to the threat of terrorist attacks.
The Sulu archipelago, including Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Jolo, are also on the FCO travel warning list as there are continuing clashes between insurgents and the military.
