Pakistan travel warnings

Holidaymakers planning to visit Pakistan are being warned to against all but essential travel to the country.

The Foreign Office is warning travellers though the state of emergency in the country has been lifted, events following the assassination of Pakistan's former prime minister Benazir Bhutto yesterday could pose a risk to visitors to the country.

"Following the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on December 27th, there is a risk of continuing violence in the run up to and following her funeral," explained the Foreign Office.

"We therefore recommend against all but essential travel to Pakistan until further notice.

For those currently in Pakistan, the Foreign Office advises staying indoors where possible "and not go out until the situation becomes clearer".
