A peace agreement has been reached in Nepal, ending years of conflict, the Nepal Tourism Board has announced.
A 14-hour negotiation between the Seven-Party Alliance and CPN-Maoists resulted in the peace accord, which will be signed on November 16th 2006 with further measures coming into place on November 21st.
The accord will see both sides locking up their arms and an interim government formed by December.
Following the peace agreement, the Foreign Office warned travellers: "The Maoists have called for a mass meeting on Friday November 10th 2006 in Kathmandu to celebrate the outcomes of peace talks.
"Such events have in the past attracted thousands of participants and caused considerable disruption to transport services. We strongly advise that you should avoid any large gatherings."
