The Trident Hotel in Mumbai will reopen on December 21st following terrorist attacks on the city which claimed 183 lives.

However, the Oberoi, the newer wing of the hotel, is likely to take around six months to sufficiently repair to allow reopening.

Some 22 guests and a further ten employees were killed at the hotel during a siege which ended on Friday November 28th when Indian army commandoes stormed the property.

However, an "impeccable" return is now promised in less than three weeks.

"The staff is working round-the-clock to ensure that Trident reopens at the earliest," confirmed a hotel official.

"With the opening of the hotel, several members of the staff will resume their responsibilities. The rest will be relocated to other hotels or will proceed on leave if they so wish."

Additional security will be put in place at the hotel added the official.
