Low-cost Hong Kong flight takes off tonight
Thursday, 26 Oct 2006 13:50
After a 24 hour wait on its first ever flight, the new low-fare long-haul specialist Oasis Hong Kong Airlines is set to fly from London tonight.
The airline has made headlines for being the first low-cost long-haul airline, offering flights to Hong Kong for £75 plus tax each way.
The 300 passengers caught up in the delays today, due to a last-minute problem with flying over Russian airspace, have been offered a free round trip by the airline, in addition to a night's accommodation in Hong Kong.
The first London to Hong Kong flight is due to take off from Gatwick tonight at 20.10, as was originally scheduled.
The airline uses former Singapore Airlines planes, and offers its economy passengers a 32 inch seating area, two hot meals and personal seat back TVs for the ticket price of £75 plus tax.
Oasis Hong Kong Airlines are also planning to fly to Oakland, just over the water from San Francisco in California, from next year, though prices are yet to be announced.
