The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued travel advice for people intending to travel to China around the time of the Beijing Olympics this summer.
Citizens of most countries will need to apply for a visa to enter mainland China and information on visas can be found on the website of the
Chinese Embassy in London.
Travellers should ensure their passports are valid for at least six months at the time they enter China.
It is also necessary to have proof of a hotel reservation or other confirmed accommodation when you arrive in the country.
The FCO warns that "most hotels in the cities where [Olympic] events will take place have been booked up months in advance".
Only purchase tickets for Olympic events from official suppliers, including
Sportsworld, which is the only official provider in the UK.
The FCO also recommends that travellers carry their passport (and a photocopy) with them at all times and keep further copies of all important documents at their hotel.
The Beijing Olympic Games will run from August 8th to 24th and the Paralympic Games run from September 6th to 17th 2008.
