Africa's largest national park will be created in Tanzania when the Ruaha National Park merges with the Usangu Game Reserve.
The merger was decided so as to secure water supplies and maintain the flow of the Great Ruaha River, which also protects the Ihefu swamp area.
Tanzania's Ruaha National Park has 10,000 elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, Defassa waterbuck, roan and sable antelope and over 520 different bird species.
"Combining the Ruaha National Park with the Usangu Game Reserve is an excellent way to maintain the region's biodiversity. The announcement fits with Tanzania's ecotourism policy which is to encourage high quality, low impact, responsible tourism in an area of outstanding natural beauty," commented Chris McIntyre, of safari and ecotourism specialists Expert Africa.
The tour operator has a nine-day safari to Selous and Ruaha in Tanzania from £2,030 per person, including four nights at Mdonya Old River Camp in Ruaha National Park, all flights, transfers, meals and safari activities.
