FCO: Avoid travel to Kenya

Travellers are being advised to avoid all but essential travel to Kenya "because of the continuing serious unrest" following the country's disputed presidential elections.
The Foreign Office amended its travel advice late last night following reports of a "million man march" planned for the Kenyan capital Nairobi today.
"We advise against all but essential travel to Kenya. There is uncertainty about the security and political situation in the country especially in light of the mass rallies planned for January 3rd and continued unrest linked to the disputed presidential election result," the Foreign Office said.
It advised travellers currently in Kenya to stay indoors and "exercise extreme caution". However, the British High Commission in Kenya is working closely with the country's government, and explains it is "in touch" with Brits across the country.
"Seek advice locally either from your tour operator or the local authorities particularly if you need to travel. You should avoid all political gatherings and large public meetings as these could turn violent," the Foreign Office concluded.
