Nine people have been killed and another 28 injured in a road accident involving a tourist bus in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, it has been reported.

Media reports suggest the bus overturned when rounding a corner and subsequently caught fire.

A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that four Britons were among the injured in the incident, which occurred on the road from Sharm el-Sheikh to Cairo.

However the names of the dead and injured passengers have not yet been released.

The bus was operated by tour company Azure Travel, the Egyptian news agency Mena reported.

Russians, Britons, Canadians, Italians, Romanians, Ukranians and Egyptians were among the tour party on the bus, the BBC reports unnamed security officials as saying.
