Quirky holiday accommodation booming

Thursday, 19 Apr 2007 09:58
Quirky holiday accommodation is booming as Brits increasingly look for self catering holidays somewhere different.

Figures from Self-Catering-Breaks.com show demand for self catering holidays on canal boats, castles and unusual farm buildings such as oast houses is up 50 per cent on the previous year.

By comparison, demand for apartments and villas is up 12 per cent.

"While villas and apartments have a much larger share of the market we are seeing a definite trend towards holiday accommodation with something different or special about it," commented Gareth Robinson, director of Self-Catering-Breaks.com.

"Many of our users have stayed in different villas and hotels all offering similar facilities and style, but now they want something with the 'X' factor.

"Owners of castles, house boats, and even log cabins are seeing growing interest in their accommodation. With leisure time getting scarcer, travellers want their holiday experience to be extra special and the accommodation can help achieve that."
