Among the world's best: Bras restaurant in France
British foodies will have to travel a little further than last year to sample the world's best food.
A restaurant on Spain's Cost Brava, owned by Spanish chef Ferran Adria, topped the 2006 list of the world's best.
El Bulli in Girona, was the runner up in last year's awards, but this year swapped places with the 2005 winner The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire.
But foodies hoping to get on the next flight to Spain should beware. El Bulli is only open for six months of the year and for this year, is already fully booked.
They could opt instead for another Spanish restaurant, Mugaritz, which was the highest new entry in
Restaurant magazine's top 50, in tenth place.
A little bit further afield is the French Laundry in Yountville, near San Francisco, which was named the best restaurant in the Americas.
Tetsuya in Sydney, Australia, was Australasia's best, while La Colombe in South Africa took the title for the best in the Middle East and Africa.
There is also plenty of choice for top quality bites in the UK. Including Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck, there were six UK restaurants in the top 50 – the majority in London.
Nobu, Gordon Ramsay, St John and Hakkasan made the list, as did Le Gavroche which was also recognised for providing outstanding value.
