While the likes of Romania's Vlad the Impaler, and Bolivia's Witches' Market may have some of ghoulish Halloween experiences, holidaymakers do not need to go far to find some ghostly trips here in the UK.
Research from hotel chain Travelodge finds York has the country's best ghost tours, followed by London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool, so finding a spooky British getaway this Halloween should be no problem.
Top UK Halloween getaways
York
York may have the most highly-rated ghost tour in the country, but it also has one of the cheapest, costing just £4 per adult and £2 for children.
Head to the Jorvik Viking Centre at 19:30 for the Ghost Detective tour. The trip is suitable for all the family and features tales of the city including sightings, scandals and more from Gary Goldthorpe, who has been leading ghost walks around the city for ten years.
The tour runs every night from April to Halloween.

London
London's history is filled chilling and dark tales, from serial killers such as Jack the Ripper to haunted houses.
One of the capital's most knowledgeable guides to ghostly and ghastly side of London is Richard Jones, who has spent 25 years researching and publishing stories on the city's gruesome past.
There are three tours available, including a walk tracing the legacy of Jack the Ripper.
Prices are £6.50 per adult, and the tours should be booked in advance.

Edinburgh
The alleyways, vaults and old buildings of historic Edinburgh hide lots of grisly facts about the city, from ghost stories, to cannibals, plagues and witches.
Holidaymakers who want a genuinely frightening Halloween tour should meet at Tron Kirk on the Royal Mile at 22:00 to learn more.
The late night tour will visit the South Bridge underground vaults - considered a hotbed for paranormal activity, as well as stopping at the Torture Museum to take in cruel medieval killing machines from Nuremberg and Bamberg castles in Germany.
Prices are £10 for adults, £9 for concessions. For more information see www.auldreekietours.com
