International travellers have voted for the best and worst hotels around the planet, with nine London hotels winning 13 awards out of a total of 345.

In travel website TripAdvisor's fifth annual Travellers' Choice hotel awards the Parkes Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, won three awards, coming 11th in world's best luxury hotels category and also selected for World Best City Hotel and Best Luxury Europe accolades.

The townhouse hotel has 33 rooms and costs £265 per night for a double room.

Also picking up awards in London was the 63-bedroom Milestone Hotel in Kensington Court, selected for the World Best Luxury and Europe Best Service categories.

Room rates start from £310 per room per night, and the hotel overlooks Kensington Palace, as well as being very close to the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park.

Picking up single awards were the Chesterfield Mayfair, Covent Garden Hotel, Sofitel, St James, Renaissance Chancery Court and Pelham Hotel in the World’s 100 Best Luxury category.

Another luxury London hotel chosen for its romantic qualities was Hotel 41 in Buckingham Palace Road, Victoria, selected for the Best for Romance Europe category.

Away from the luxury end of the scale it was only the Bay Tree House, in Southgate that won an award, making the top ten Best Inns and B&Bs Europe.

"Unlike any other hotel awards programmes that survey perhaps thousands of people, TripAdvisor’s Travellers' Choice winners are uniquely selected by the millions of travellers from around the world who provide their real and unbiased reviews or opinions about hotels on tripadvisor.com and across the web," explained TripAdvisor European communications manager Ian Rumgay.

However, though travellers looking for luxury accommodation in some of central London's most well-heeled locations are well catered for, getting a good value, clean room in and around the capital in some establishments was seriously problematic.

Among the ten dirtiest hotels, London racked up four fleapits, with those to avoid named and shamed as the Master Brewer in Uxbridge, Hyde Park West in Notting Hill, the Corbigoe Hotel and Park Hotel both on Belgrave Road in Victoria.

Mr Rumgay concluded: "Clearly London is a world leader in quality establishments and it is a shame that it is let down by properties at the other end of the spectrum."
