Don't bet against the popularity of Vegas
Las Vegas has come out on top of a poll of the world's most popular gambling hotspots.
The city, which is situated in the middle of the Nevada desert, claimed 53 per cent of the vote to find the world's most popular casino tourist destination.
Reno on Lake Tahoe in northern Nevada was second in the poll by TripAdvisor with four per cent of the vote.
Monte-Carlo, renowned playground of the rich and famous, was in third place with 3.3 per cent of the vote, while back in the US, New Jersey's Atlantic City was in fourth place having secured three per cent in the poll.
Despite the growing popularity of poker, it was fourth behind slots, blackjack and roulette in favourite games to play at a casino.
Thirty-six per cent of respondents favoured slots, followed by blackjack at 19 per cent.
However, the research also reveals that gambling is not the prime motivation behind people taking a holiday to a casino destination.
Many travellers get a buzz from the "energy and activity" of casino destinations, with 28 per cent citing it as their favourite part of the visit, compared to 14 per cent who say the same about gambling.
The survey did not uncover a best time of year to go to casinos, with half of respondents believing they are a year-round attraction.
