Heston: accepts US could have best French food
One could be forgiven for thinking that the only place in the world to eat exquisite French cuisine is France, but a new list shows that this is not necessarily the case.
While France of course has some of the most wholesomely authentic French food in the world, one can still eat fantastic Gallic meals in other countries.
DininginFrance.com, which reviews and highlights quality French eating, has published its 2006 list of the ten best French restaurants in the world, which are not located in France.
The list covers Europe, North America and even Asia, showing that fine French food is available all over the world, if the holiday-maker is willing to look.
Maurice Graham Henry, owner of DininginFrance.com, said: "Since French cuisine is considered the very best in the world, those choosing to always live and eat well will certainly want to dine at the very best French restaurants in the world, even when not travelling in France."
Indeed, the list suggests that to eat the best French food the world has to offer, one does not even need be in France, a sentiment echoed by Heston Blumenthal, owner of the restaurant of the year, the Fat Duck.
Of one of the US restaurants that made the list, The French Laundry in California, Mr Blumenthal said: "It is just possible that the best example of precise classical French cooking is not in France but in the United States."
