The Grand Canyon: the place most Americans would like to visit
Americans have shown their appreciation for their natural landscape by naming the Grand Canyon as the American treasure they most would like to visit.
The canyon, which is 277 miles long and receives over five million visitors a year, is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World.
In a celebration of the great outdoors, Yellowstone National Park - the oldest national park in the world - and Niagara Falls were also named in the top five places Americans would like to visit, according to a survey conducted by the Travel Industry Association of America.
The Statue of Liberty, at number two, and the White House and monuments of Washington DC, at number four, were the only man made attractions to feature in the top ten.
"It's interesting to note that the top ten are all magnificent outdoor experiences that either highlight our natural beauty or our history and culture," said TIA president Roger Dow.
Also featuring in the top ten were the Hawaiian islands, the glaciers and fjords of Alaska and the Rocky Mountains.
