Couple to wed at sea with P&O

Friday, 07 Apr 2006 10:41
Couples can wed aboard ships such as Arcadia
A Birmingham couple are set to become the first to tie the knot in an entirely British wedding at sea.

Sue Ringham, 37, and Alan Boffey, 40, will set sail from Southampton on board P&O Cruises' Oceana later this month, and return as husband and wife.

They are marrying under P&O Cruises new Weddings at Sea programme, under which happy couples can say "I do" at sea on liners Arcadia, Oceana and Artemis.

P&O is not the first cruise line to offer weddings – others offer weddings in cruise ports such as Miami or St Thomas – but is the first to offer British weddings while at sea.

Looking ahead to the big day on April 23rd, the groom said: "We're such big fans of cruising – this is our fifth cruise with P&O Cruises – it makes perfect sense for us to get married on board Oceana.

"All the wedding arrangements are looked after by the ship's staff and our son, best man and Susan's parents can join us for the special day."

The ceremony will be performed by captain Alistair Clark in the Captain's Lounge, and will be followed by a banquet reception in the dining room complete with a traditional wedding cake handmade on board.

"There's been a huge response to this service for our passengers," said Philip Price, head of brand marketing at P&O Cruises.

"They realise a wedding at sea is an idyllic, cost-effective and effortless way to say 'I do'."
