Dublin counts down to St Patrick's day

The sky turns green as Dublin celebrates St Patrick's Day
Dublin is counting down to the biggest party, or craic, of the year - St Patrick's day

Over fifty different events are planned to celebrate this year's St Patrick's day, March 17, starting the day before and continuing to March 20.

The main event takes place on the day itself with Dublin's legendary parade - a spectacular street party that attracts over half a million high-spirited revellers every year.

This year's theme is Mischief, Madness and Mayhem - and promises the same marching bands, colour and creativity as in previous years.

On March 19, the Denny Treasure Hunt gets people exploring the city's most obscure corners and unexpected secrets, starting at City Hall. The competitive team event is aimed at families and tests participants' knowledge of music, literature and history.

And in the evening, those revellers still standing after five days of Guinness-fuelled fun, can head to the quays for what is billed to be the most spectacular fireworks display the city has ever seen.

Visit the official St Patrick's Day website for more information.
