Musicians go Mad in Iceland

The cool of Reykjavik's harbour contrasts with a noisy night with Britain's best
Iceland is famous for its bubbling spas, imperious glaciers and frosty, dramatic scenery, but now there is a new kind of cool coming to the country.
Now music fans and sightseers can enjoy the best of both worlds in Reykjavik with a new music festival that will combine the shimmering beauty of Iceland's capital with the grit of the north-west of England.
Such a combination may not sound that appealing for the holidaymaker keen to get away from Britain, but when northern England's contribution to the mix is the region's finest bands, it is something to get excited about.
Madchester is taking place on May 6th in Reykjavik and will feature some of the north's top acts, including Badly Drawn Boy, Elbow and 80s legends Echo and the Bunnymen.
The bands will play at one of Iceland's biggest music venues, Laugardalshollin, and will be supported by some of Iceland's homegrown talent.
The night has been created to celebrate the tightening of links between Iceland and Manchester, following Icelandair's launch of its twice weekly flights from Manchester to Iceland.
The event will give Icelanders the chance to enjoy what Britain has to offer, while Brits making the trip over to Iceland can enjoy what the glacial country has going for it.
After the concert, fans can recover in the rejuvenating warm waters of the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, try their hand at horse riding or head out to spot whales off the Icelandic coast.
Icelandair is offering a package deal for the event, which includes entry to the concert, entry to an exclusive after-party at one of Reykjavik's hippest venues, NASA, return flights and two night's B&B accommodation. Prices start from £315 per person.
If music fans cannot make it over for Madchester, Iceland has other festivals to offer, such as the Iceland Airwaves Festival in October, which includes acts such as The Zutons, Juliette and the Licks, and the country's very own Bjork.
