Thursday, 16 Feb 2006 16:34
Budapest's spring festival takes place in March
Hungary's capital Budapest will be celebrating the lives of two famous composers during this year's spring festival.

It is 125 years since the birth of Hungarian musician Bela Bartok and 250 years since the birth of Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The 26th Budapest spring festival, which takes place between March 17th and April 2nd, will showcase a range of their works, including Mozart's string quartets and opera selections and Bartok's Violin concerto No. 1 and Piano concerto No. 1.

The festival will also contain a range of other arts and events, including a contemporary twist with Lausanne's Bejart Ballet work choreographed to the music of rock band Queen.

A range of other international artists are set to feature, including Daniel Barenboim, one of the worlds' finest pianists, who will be playing solo in the Palace of Arts, and violinist Maxim Venegerov who will be playing a concert with the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra.

The festival will also have a lively fringe which is set to showcase the best young talent in genres ranging from pop-rock to classical music.
