Looking for love? Head for the Med

Tuesday, 17 May 2005 13:55
St Tropez: France is best for singles
The Mediterranean offers the best chance of holiday romance for love-seeking singles, new research shows.

France tops the list of love destinations, attracting over half a million single visitors last year, while mainland Spain was not far behind with over 450,000 lonely hearts.

But the research by Virgin Money Travel Insurance suggests that pulling percentages are highest in the less busy but 'single heavy' destinations of Italy, Greece and Turkey.

One in four Brits heading for these countries on holiday is unattached.

If you're looking for long haul love, then the USA and Asia are the top choices, with Florida alone attracting over 164,000 single visitors last year alone.

But if you prefer to meet someone closer to home, then head to the west country where there were 328,000 single visitors in 2004.

Jason Wyer-Smith from Virgin Money Travel Insurance, said: "Choosing your destination carefully can seriously improve your chances of a holiday romance. According to our research, pulling could be twice as hard in Cyprus than in Turkey so for a slightly longer flight you'll more than double your prospects of finding a partner."
