England fans to spend £60m in Germany

A trip to Germany is expected to cost England fans £600 each
England football fans are expected to shell out £60 million on travelling to the World Cup in Germany.

More than 100,000 St George's flag-draped supporters – the largest group of fans after the home nation – are predicted to spend an average of £600 each, research shows.

Beer sales in German cities such as Cologne, Nuremberg and Frankfurt, where England will be playing their group matches, are set to account for £3.5 million, according to a survey by price comparison website PriceRunner.

Hotels and restaurants in Germany are expected to take £26.1 million from their English guests, while German taxi drivers will take £1.36 million.

Fans should familiarise themselves with the going-rate before parting with their cash to ensure they do not get ripped off.

A short taxi ride should cost £6.80, while an average two-star hotel should charge about £110 a night.

For price-conscious fans, it is possible to travel to Germany on the cheap, staying in campsites – costing as little as £7.50 a night – and stocking up on beer from German supermarkets for as little as 38 pence per litre.

"England fans will undoubtedly want to make the most of the World Cup experience," said PriceRunner.co.uk's Matthias Berg.

"We have provided this information as a price guide so England fans know what they should be paying when in Germany and don't get ripped off by anyone looking to make a quick euro." XXX
