When someone mentions world class opera to you, Denmark may not be the first destination you think of – other places such as Verona and Glyndebourne spring more readily to mind.
However, a team of organisations are working together to give opera fans something to get excited about when travelling to Denmark.
Culture Kick is a programme being headed up by the Royal Danish Theatre, the Arp-Hansen Hotel group, SAS, travel agency Travel Art and the tourist organisation VisitDenmark.
The project hopes to tap into the so-called 'city break' market, which is increasingly the holiday of choice for professionals who are interested in culture.
Culture Kick is drawing together cheap air tickets, hotel accommodation and tickets to the opera and ballet into one, easy to choose package.
Designed to make the cultural highlights of Denmark seem more accessible and promote the value-for-money options, it is hoped more people will start taking advantage of the country's cultural opportunities.
The Culture Kick scheme has been helped by the successful opening of the waterfront Copenhagen Opera House at the start of the year, which has garnered much international acclaim.
Visitors to Denmark can enjoy operatic performances such as Macbeth, La Traviata, Stormen, and Requiem and Wild Swans at the ballet.
Kresten Schultz-Jørgensen, director of communications and marketing at the Royal Danish Theatre, said: "Both our opera and our ballet belong in the European elite when it comes to quality.
"As we can now offer performances both in the Opera House and at the old, beautiful Royal Theatre we will suddenly have thousands of extra tickets to sell in the future.
"So we are delighted to be able to meet the foreign demand, for instance through the cooperation with Culture Kick and the professional partners in the Danish travel industry."
