Thursday, 05 Jun 2008 11:02
Uefa Euro 2008 is nearly here!
The whole of Austria is being turned into a fan zone and football supporters who don't have tickets to the Uefa Euro 2008 matches can look forward to a great holiday.

Travelbite.co.uk brings you all the details of where to party and watch the games.

Innsbruck, in Austria's Tyrol region, will have a fan mile running from Bergisel stadium all the way to the city's historic old town.

There will be a big holiday programme, with Austrian culinary delights available on match days from 14:00 to around midnight local time.

Cheap accommodation for the football festival can be found at the Fan Camp at the Innsbruck Trade Fair Centre. The camp will also screen live broadcasts of matches.

Salzburg is one of Europe's most beautiful cities and the old town will be transformed into a unique fan zone.

Around the cathedral, three 40-square-metre video walls will show live broadcasts of all the games and the fan zone will be open daily from 14:00 to around 23:00 local time for 25,000 football fans.

The Residenzplatz will have a concert stage for shows of all kinds as well as a food island. The Kapitelplatz will offer family entertainment.

Klagenfurt will welcome tens of thousands of football fans and holidaymakers to Austria's southernmost (and sunniest) city and has declared the entire city centre a "fan mile".

The Mediterranean atmosphere of this province should see a summery festival atmosphere in the fan zone at the Trade Fair centre - which has space for 20,000 visitors and will be open from 14:00 to midnight.

A 60 square metre video wall will broadcast all the Uefa Euro 2008 matches live and there will be plenty of entertainment provided by concerts, DJs and various artists.

At the Neuer Platz, just in front of the Rathaus, another 6,000 fans will be able to follow all the matches on a video wall (open daily from 09:00 to midnight).

Klagenfurt lies right on Worthersee Lake and fans can also follow the football action on the beach.

There will be a fan zone at the beach volleyball area of the Klagenfurter Ost-Bucht beside the lake, which expects to welcome between 15,000 and 20,000 supporters.

Hosting the Euro 2008 final will make Vienna the footballing capital of the world as well as the Austrian capital in June.

Seven games are scheduled to be held here as well as the final on June 29th. The city has the longest fan zone of any host city - stretching 1.2 kilometres from the Rathausplatz along the Ringstrasse to the Heldenplatz in the city centre.

The Vienna fan zone expects to welcome up to 100,000 fans to watch the matches live on nine LED walls.

Classical music fans can also take in performances by Placido Domingo, Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon against the magnificent backdrop of Schonbrunn Palace on June 27th.

Other non-football entertainment will include concerts by the Vienna Boys' Choir and Sir Elton John.

A floating pool known as the 'Badeschiff' or the Summerstage has been set up on the Danube Canal to provide a more relaxing environment for holidaying football fans.

Apart from the official fan zones, the whole of Austria will be a public viewing arena, with big screens showing live matches all over the country.

The biggest screen licensed so far measures 44 square metres and will show the games at the Kaiserwiese at the Prater in Vienna.

In the beautiful city of Graz, people can experience stadium atmosphere at the Wiener Neustadt, where eight matches will be shown on 29-square-metre screens.

At Tulln all 31 matches will be projected on a huge screen at the Donaubuhne for 'Football under the stars'. Entrance is free and there will be plenty of entertainment and food from the participating countries.

Baden's Brusattiplatz will also show all the matches for free and the Lutzmannsburg thermal spa is showing the first eight matches for hordes of fans.

Also look out for the European Championship for football fans, which will be held in Oztal from June 8th to 27th, and the Ladies Tournament for amateur footballers in St Anton am Arlberg between June 25th and 30th.
