Food, rum and flowers in St Lucia

The island of St Lucia may have already had its carnival earlier this summer, but there are still some great events going on from August to October this year.

The island's celebrations include festivals dedicated to food, rum and flowers.

The first of these takes place on August 30th, when the first of two rival flower societies on the island holds its festival.

The Feast of St Rose de Lima sees the islanders celebrate with parades, food, dancing, singing and music.

This is then countered by similar celebrations on October 17th, with the Feast of the Marguerite celebrated in similar fashion.

October is a special time to visit the island for holidaymakers keen to see the more traditional way of life as there are regular events celebrating Creole Heritage month.

Another autumn event foodies will not want to miss is the St Lucia Food and Rum festival, taking place over three days.

From November 1st to 4th chefs, international wine and rum specialists and food critics will be in St Lucia to enjoy the best of locally made food and drink.

Holidaymakers can look forward to rum tastings, trying different wines and foods, and seeing food demonstrations from local and international chefs.
