Yachts are flocking to Martinique
Martinique is one of the world's most popular sailing and yachting destinations, thanks to its safe and swanky ports.
The French-Caribbean island is a popular target for tourists taking their families and friends out on the high-seas for a sunny, sea-faring holiday, not least because of its well-equipped port and bay, Fort-de-France.
While Fort-de-France remains one of the island's most beautiful and popular bays, there are other marinas popping up all over the place to cater for the rising numbers of holiday sailors.
Those yachting to Martinique can now dock at Pointe du Bout, Le Robert, Sainte-Anne and Le Marin – the home to the particularly impressive Port de Plaisance marina.
While visiting Martinique by boat, there are any number of boating races for you to watch, if not take part in.
In August holidaymakers can watch Caribbean fishing boats from yesteryear go head-to-head in the Yole Boat Race.
Or in March there is the Transcaraibe des Passionnes, a usually dramatic boat race that launches in Marin and heads to the shores of Cuba.
But perhaps of most interest are the June Regattas, which attract crews from around the world, including those from Europe, the US and the Caribbean. As well as races, there are nautical events to be enjoyed by the family, as well as stalls and stages on the shore.
