The Caribbean without the kids

The thought of a romantic holiday in the sun is bliss for most couples, but for some, the reality can sometimes miss the mark.

As delightful and loving as children can be, their enthusiasm and excitement is not always conducive to a bit of romance; sometimes adults need to get away not just from work, but everything.

Which is why the Bel Air Plantation is open to only those aged over 15. Based on the Caribbean island of Grenada, the luxury resort is set on a hillside overlooking the sea.

Its panoramic location makes it ideal for romantics, who will be able to take in one peaceful Grenadan sunset after another from the privacy of their balconies and verandas.

The resort is split up into cottages and villas, with a large, communal infinity swimming pool which also looks over the bay.

After a day relaxing beside the pool, holidaymakers can enjoy a top quality meal at Bel Air's five-star restaurant, or head for the sights and sounds of Grenada's centre.

During the day, the resort is also in close proximity to the bays, harbours and cultural focal points of Grenada, such as Fort George.

The island's oldest fortress, it offers tremendous views of Grand Anse beach and the nearby lagoon, which is ideal for a plunge once you have looked around the 18th century grounds.

Days out can also be had on Carriacou, where the near-empty beaches are ideal for couples who want a private, cosy, day in the blazing Caribbean sun.
