Egypt was the most searched-for holiday destination in September
Egypt has experienced a resurgence as a holiday destination after a dip following a terrorist attack earlier this year.
Data from Cheapflights.co.uk shows that the Middle Eastern country was the most searched-for holiday destination in September, and the seventh most searched for destination in October.
This is a big improvement on its performance following the Sharm el-Sheikh bombings on July 23rd this year, which saw it plummet to 30th place in August.
The Dominican Republic is another country to experience a resurgence.
It was named as a hot destination for 2005 by members of the Association of British Travel Agents, and this is reflected by its position as the third most searched-for destination in October – climbing 17 places since August.
Cheapflights.co.uk's Liz Faherty said: "Having experienced comparable terrorist activity, this survey illustrates how supportive and resilient the British are in helping Egypt's resorts get back on their feet.
"Similarly, now that the threat of the hurricane season lessens, the Dominican Republic has also seen a resurgence into the top ten. As the hurricane season ends in November, tourists are being drawn back to this picture-perfect nation due to its laid back atmosphere and advantageous prices!"
Meanwhile, the popularity of more traditional holiday destinations such as Greece and the Spanish islands has fallen.
Ibiza, for example, ranked as the fifth most searched for location in August, is now down at 20th due to a combination of celeb overexposure and the end of the Spanish season.
This contrasts with the performance of New York, which is now the eighth most popular location for a long-stay holiday.
Ms Faherty added: "Another particularly notable result is New York. As Christmas approaches, a longer stay in the Big Apple makes sense as visitors can combine pre-Christmas bargain shopping with sightseeing to fill a week of fun.
