Brits are heading further afield for their half-term holidays
Britons taking their kids on holiday for half-term are getting more adventurous in their choice of destinations.
Gambia, Kenya and Morocco are among the top ten holiday destinations for parents, according to a survey by lastminute.com.
The Dominican Republic – helped by end-of-season Caribbean deals – is also proving popular, in sixth place.
Perennial favourites, such as Majorca, Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, head the list of holiday destinations, but the presence of countries further-afield shows that Brits are becoming more adventurous, even with family holidays.
"As a nation the Brits are well-travelled and confident so it stands to reason that the family market is following the overall trend in visiting slightly more unusual destinations," said lastminute.com's travel director John Bevan.
"Holidays in Gambia, Kenya, Morocco represent great value for money in general for the Brits, but to make them even more appealing at present some of our top suppliers are offering great reductions on child places or room upgrades. The idea that holiday prices always sky-rocket during school holidays is not necessarily true."
The position of Egypt as the second most popular destination for families this half term shows Brits have not been put off by the recent bombing in the resort of Dahab, and last year's attack on Sharm el-Sheikh.
Mr Bevan added: "Despite recent incidents in the country, the Brits have been quick to return to Red Sea resorts and booking levels are now higher than they were before the most recent security alert."
