MV Discovery: will be visiting Havana and San Christobal next winter
Voyages of Discovery have added a number of cruises to the Cuban capital of Havana to its offerings for 2006/07.

The home of lively bars, faded colonial architecture and Cuban cigars will feature in a number of cruise itineraries.

This includes the 21-night Voyage to Havana, which features stops at Gibraltar, Funchal, Barbados, St Lucia, Martinique, Antigua and Grand Turk before arriving at the Cuban capital.

Voyages of Discovery is also introducing additional calls at San Cristobal Island following the popularity of its inaugural programme of cruises to the Galapagos Islands.

Giant tortoises, blue and red-footed Boobies and marine Iguanas are among the wildlife that cruise passengers to San Cristobal can expect to see, according to the cruise line.

One 30-night cruise offers passengers the chance to visit the Galapagos Islands, South America and Antarctica. Stopovers include San Cristobal, the Peruvian capital of Lima with the chance to visit Machu Picchu, Valparaiso in Chile, and the Chilean fjords.

"Sailing from Barcelona to the South Pacific and back to Britain, our winter season offers a wide range of unusual and exciting destinations," said David Yellow, managing director of Voyages of Discovery.

"There will be transatlantic sailings that start and finish in Cuba, passages through the Panama Canal and visits to Patagonia and Antarctica."

Voyages of Discovery cruise prices

  • The 21-night cruise to Havana, departing December 8th 2006, starts at £2,495 per person, based on two persons sharing and including return flights from the UK.
