Come to the Cayman Carnival

Every year the placid Cayman Islands are engulfed by a kicking carnival
Holidaymakers in the Cayman Islands should prepare to batten down the hatches as the uproarious Batabano Carnival is coming to town.
Between May 11th and 13th, Cayman locals and tourists join together for the popular annual festival that involves live music, tasty food and colourful parades.
The party celebrates the coming of spring, and finishing touches are currently being made to the wide range of floats and costumes that are the focal point of the carnival.
Holidaymakers who fancy dancing the night away and paying the Cayman Islands a visit during the carnival can expect to see anything from dancing stingrays to floating shoes.
The carnival traditionally has a tropical theme, and exotic costumes combine with joyous steel drum music and flamboyant dancers.
While celebrating Cayman's diverse marine life (Batabano is the name given to the beach tracks left by turtles), the parade's costumes also comment on topical social issues, such as drug abuse and the refugee crisis.
While there is much to do for adults, with fruity punch cocktails on sale and blissful sunsets as the evening dances begin, there is also a great deal for children to enjoy.
During the festival, the spectator-lined streets are treated to presentations and dances from Cayman's primary school children, who provide quite a show to upbeat Soca music as part of Jr Carnival.
There are also singing competitions and night-time fetes which serve tasty, traditional Caribbean treats.
Holidaymakers on the Cayman Islands can taste a bit of the carnival atmosphere wherever they are, be it in George Town or Pedro St James.
