International cricket heads to Barbados and Antigua in 2007
Antigua and Barbados may be top destinations for relaxing beach holidays, but the Caribbean islands are set to step up the pace next year when they host international cricket matches.
In April 2007, nine of the World Cup Super 8 Stage matches will be played on the two islands, and for serious cricket fans a 24-night tour that includes internal flights and tickets for all the matches may be easiest way to catch all the action.
There will be plenty of time between the matches for holidaymakers to take advantage of fun activities on offer at the islands, including snorkelling and safaris.
Spending time on the beach is also a must, particularly as Antigua has 365 beaches.
Matches anticipated to be played in Antigua at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium include India vs New Zealand, England vs Sri Lanka and Australia vs England.
Matches expected to be played in Barbados at the Kensington Oval are England vs India, Australia vs Pakistan, India vs Pakistan, South Africa vs England, West Indies vs India and West Indies vs England.
Holidaymakers can stay at the Grand Royal Antiguan, a four-star resort that also has a range of family entertainment option, and the all-inclusive Almond Casuarina on the south coast of Barbados.
Flights depart from London Gatwick on March 31st with Virgin Atlantic, and return on April 24th from Grantley Adams Airport, Barbados. The tour comprises a ten night stay in Antigua and a further fortnight in Barbados. Manchester departures are available with BMI for a supplement of £75 per person.
Prices start at £6,495 per person based on twin share accommodation at an all-inclusive resort, and include international flights with Virgin or BMI, internal flights from Antigua to Barbados, officially reserved match tickets, merchandise and coach transfers.
Guests receive reserved tickets for a total of nine matches based on the teams expected to proceed to the Super 8 Stage.
This tour is one of eight arranged by Sporting Journeys for 2007, combining international cricket with a tropical holiday.
