Antigua is traditionally a paradise for beach bums in search of a tranquil break on endless stretches of sand, but come the summer it turns into a throbbing carnival.
One of the hottest events in the Caribbean calendar, the 11-day festival offers a raft of activities and parties, giving a fun insight into Antiguan life.
Starting on July 29th and winding down on August 8th, the festival attracts crowds from the world over, who join in with the carnival parades, music events and much dancing.
A specially commissioned 'Carnival City' will be built on the Antigua Recreation Ground in the island's capital, St John's, where party-goers can indulge in some delicious, freshly barbecued chicken and fish.
One of the most fun and also important days in the carnival is j'ouvert, which means day-break. This year falling on August 7th, j'ouvert sees the streets of St John flooded with revellers jumping and dancing to Caribbean calypso and steel band music.
Tourists can consider cobbling together their own outlandish and colourful costume so that they look the part for the carnival, though just letting it all hang out is also de rigueur.
The festival is not just about fun however, as the music troupes, groups and floats are all competing to be recognised as the best on show, which is good news for tourists as it means they are guaranteed a show to remember.
Winners are judged and announced on the final two days of the festival, when yet more food and drink will be consumed to round things off nicely.
For holidaymakers who fancy enjoying Antigua's carnival, Thomas Cook Signature is offering seven nights staying at the St James' Club, during the period from £1329 per person.
It is also great fun for kids, and those who are 12 or younger can go from £869 on a room only basis.
